Viral conditions such as
Herpes, Shingles, the Common Cold,
Influenza or even Dengue Fever are in
most cases treated more efficiently with essential
oil than with conventional drugs. This fact,
however, remains critically under-reported, because
essential oils are not open to corporate commerce
in the same way patentable drugs are.
This conference will
present up to date research, which
establishes the superior efficacy of essential oils in
the treatment of many viral conditions.
Advances in cellular biology prove that
many, previouslydisputed applications of essential oils, are in fact
rational therapeutic strategies. Millions of years of natural selection
have engineered essential oils into a powerful biological security force,
which prevents disease and optimizes health. Cell biology demonstrates
that essential oils are effective in many different arenas such as
fighting bacteria, eliminating viruses, inflammation or equilibrating the
nervous system (managing stress). Yet essential oils also counteract
immune deficiencies and degenerative disease, their anti-tumor effects
have been highlighted by the most respected scientists (PIA Conference
Proceedings 2000). To the skeptic such an accumulation of health benefits
might appear to be the naive conviction of esoteric dreamers. But today's
data show that the many different qualities of essential oils are not the
exaggeration of marketing executives, but in fact the unique qualities of
secondary plant metabolites, inimitably honed by millions of years of
struggle for survival. Many of these surprising features of essential oils
were discovered in the intense research conducted to evaluate the
anti-tumor effects of terpenoid essential oil components. This years
presentations will introduce new research - Prof. Reichling - but also
revisit - Dr. Watzl - the work of Charles Elson and Dennis Peffley and
many other scientists who have contributed to the understanding of the
complex ways in which essential oils contribute to tumor prevention.
Understanding these effects one by one
allows aromatherapy to open up entirely new therapeutic dimensions.

Antiviral Properties of Essential Oils
Jürgen Reichling
Dr. Jürgen Reichling is professor at the Institute for Pharmacology and
Biotechnology at the University of Heidelberg, Germany. His research
focusses on the antiviral properties of essential oils. The numerous
studies he has conducted demonstrate that essential oils combine efficacy
against the virion with other important qualities. Antibacterial,
antifungal and especially anti-inflammative properties combine with
outstanding antiviral activity to render essential oils most effective in
the actual treatment of viral conditions.
Physiology of Terpenoids
Bernhard Watzl
Dr. Bernhard Watzl is acting head of the German Institute of Nutritional
Physiology at the Federal Research Centre for Nutrition and Food in
Karlsruhe, Germany. Dr. Watzl will review recent research in molecular
biology, which demonstrates anti-tumor and other significant physiological
properties of terpenoids. He will discuss the implicatons for the
prevention of degenerative diseases.

John Abramson
John Abramson, M.D. is on the clinical faculty of Harvard Medical School

Jeffrey Yuen
Treatment of Viral Conditions from a TCM Perspective
Jeffrey C. Yuen is the 88th Generation Taoist Master of Yu Ching Huang Lao
Pai, Yellow Emperor/Lao Tsu Sect, ordained by 87th Generation Taoist
Master Yu Wen. In his practice Mr. Yuen has pioneered the therapeutic
application of essential oils within the framework of Traditional Chinese
Medicine (TCM) and thus initiated entirely new avenues of healing for
aromatherapy. His popular seminars are sought after by students of
acupuncture and aromatherapy alike.
Mr. Yuen will discuss the energetics of viral conditions and how essential
oils can be used in their treatment.
Kurt Schnaubelt
Can Essential Oils be Effective Against all Virions?
The classic studies of R. Deininger and A. Lembke prove that essential
oils as well as their individual constituents have strong antiviral
properties. Dr. Schnaubelt will revisit these fundamental studies with
special consideration of practical applications for viral conditions.
Anne Vermilye
Essential Oils, Antibiotic Resistant Bacteria and the SARS Virion?
Ms. Vermilye has initiated laboratory studies investigating essential oil
efficacy against so-called superbugs or antibiotic resistant bacteria and
also the SARS virion. Results show that essential oil synergies are highly
effective even against resistant bacteria. Preliminary findings also show
considerable efficacy against the SARS virion.
Richard Maldonado
A Journey into the World of Plant Spirit
In his nationwide practice Richard Maldonado has helped countless
